Volkan Hursever - Hediye

Biography (Source: http://www.volkanhursever.com/eng)

"After ten years study in classical music, Volkan Hürsever graduated from the Bass department of Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory. He received his first jazz theory instruction from Neşet Ruacan.

He collaborated with many other musicians both in his homeland and abroad. He performed in various festivals and gave many concerts. Volkan Hürsever joined Ricky Ford´s-composer and saxophone player- Jazz Collective Project. After sharing the stage with Roy Haynes, Kenny Garret, Nicholas Payton and Dave Kikovski as part of Roy Haynes project entitled "Birds of a Feather"; Volkan Hürsever joined the band´s European tour.

He taught bass at the Music Performance Department of Bilgi University until the department was closed down. He played together with almost all Turkish jazz musicians. He worked with the world´s most renowned musicians among which are Alan Harris, Laverne Buttler, Marion Cowings, Billy James, Harvey Thompson, and Clifford Jarvis for quite a while. Volkan Hürsever manages to clearly and timely project the sound of his instrument which by nature of its rhythmic and harmonic structure is ordinarily geared more towards accompaniment than solo playing. This has made Volkan Hürsever one of the influential delegates of this universal mission of acoustic bass playing both in Turkey and the rest of the world.

His first album "Hediye" (Gift) for which he collaborated with Burçin Büke and Volkan Öktem was recorded in March 2009 and will be released by A.K. Müzik in November"
